Do you accept insurance?

We are an out-of-network provider and do not bill insurance directly. Many insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis in order to cover services. This can feel invasive, and it may not always reflect the full picture of what brings someone to counseling. Insurance can also place limits on the number of sessions, the length of sessions, and the therapeutic approaches used. By choosing to remain out-of-network, we’re able to create a counseling experience that is flexible, personalized, and centered on your goals rather than insurance requirements.

If you’d like to use your insurance benefits, we can provide a monthly statement called a superbill. This document includes service codes and a mental health diagnosis, since insurance companies require both in order to consider reimbursement. While a superbill allows you to submit directly to your insurance for possible out-of-network coverage, it’s important to know that a formal diagnosis will become part of your insurance record, and coverage depends on your individual plan. Coverage varies depending on your plan, so we encourage you to contact your insurance provider to learn more about your out-of-network benefits. Intensive therapy, workshops, and retreats are not covered by insurance.

What is the cost of mental health counseling services?
All new clients will begin counseling with a 90 minute intake appointment that explores your reasons for seeking treatment, as well as your history and symptoms, to help inform and guide your counseling sessions. The investment for the 90 minute intake appointment is $200. Individual counseling sessions after the intake appointment are 55 minutes. The investment for these 55 minute counseling sessions is $175.

How long are mental health counseling sessions?
All new clients will begin counseling with a 90 minute intake appointment. Counseling sessions after that are 55 minutes in length. Longer sessions may be explored and agreed upon between the client and the treating therapist.

What is the cost of intensive therapy?
Intensive therapy involves a 90 minute exploration and planning session, with an investment of $270. Intensive therapy is highly customizable and is billed based on an hourly rate of $200 p/hour for weekday sessions and $225 for weekend appointments. The overall cost is based on the number of hours you choose to engage in intensive therapy. Each intensive therapy session concludes with a 90 minute post-intensive debrief, with an investment of $270.

For clients already engaged in typical 55 minute counseling sessions with TEI who are interested in engaging in intensive therapy an exploration and planning session and a post-intensive debrief may or may not be necessary. We encourage you to discuss your specific needs and explore your options with your treating therapist.

How many counseling or intensive therapy sessions will I need?
The number of sessions you may need can vary based on your unique concerns, goals, history, and consistency in treatment. Some people notice meaningful progress after just a few sessions, while others find that ongoing support is most helpful. Your therapist will work with you to explore what pace and duration of counseling—or length of an intensive—will best support your needs.

Do you offer a sliding scale for mental health counseling and/or intensive therapy services?
We take on a limited number of reduced fee clients at a time for mental health counseling. We partner with local churches and nonprofits to help support clients who would benefit from lowered mental health counseling fees. We do not offer a sliding scale or reduced fee for intensive therapy services at this time.

Do you offer virtual or telehealth sessions?
Yes, we offer virtual mental health counseling sessions in the states we are licensed to provide services: North Carolina and South Carolina. These services are offered through HIPAA compliant platforms. Intensive therapy and other services are not currently offered virtually.

Do you offer free consultation calls?
Yes, we offer brief complimentary consultation calls to ensure goodness of fit before commitment to mental health counseling and/or intensive therapy.

What is expected of me during counseling or intensive therapy?
In counseling, there’s no “perfect” way to show up—what matters most is that you come as you are. You can expect to bring your honest thoughts, feelings, and questions, and your therapist will provide a supportive space to explore them. At times, you may be invited to share your story, reflect on patterns, or practice new skills together. Progress often comes as you lean into self-awareness and take small steps toward change, but there’s no set timeline. Your therapist will guide the process so you don’t have to carry it alone, while encouraging you to engage in ways that feel both safe and meaningful.

What about privacy and confidentiality?
Your privacy matters deeply to us, and everything you share in counseling and/or intensive therapy is held with the utmost care and confidentiality. We also take record keeping seriously and will never share your records—or information about your participation or progress in treatment—without your consent. The only exceptions to confidentiality are situations where there may be a risk of harm or safety concerns. We’ll go over these limits together in your first session so you feel fully informed and at ease moving forward.

Privacy and confidentiality for workshops and retreats varies, but will be offered in the informed consent when signing up to participate.

What are your cancellation policies for mental health counseling?
When you schedule a counseling session we commit to holding space for you that could otherwise be filled by another client. We ask that you provide a minimum of 24 hours notice for any cancellations so that we can work to fill any openings in the schedule with clients on the waitlist or clients who are hoping to fit a session in with a cancellation. If you do not provide 24 hours notice you will be charged the full fee for sessions and collected fees will not be reimbursable. In the event of a true emergency or unprecedented event, reach out to discuss options.

What are your cancellation policies for intensive therapy?
Individual therapy intensives are a commitment between a client and their treating therapist. When scheduling an intensive you recognize that your therapist is holding a large amount of time for you that is unable to be utilized for other clients if you do not attend your intensive or if you cancel your intensive without notice. Due to this level of commitment, full payment for intensive therapy sessions is due one week prior to your scheduled intake appointment. If you cancel your intensive appointment(s) without at least one week's notice you will not receive a refund. Your funds can be applied to a future intensive within six months of your initially scheduled intensive. After six months you are unable to schedule an intensive with the initial deposit and you forfeit your payment.
